The first photos of Dakota Fanning in the upcoming period piece Effie have been released!
The film originally had some legal troubles when playwright Gregory Murphy felt Thompson’s script was too close to his 1999 play The Countess, and sued for copyright infringement in February of last year. That ended up causing a delay in production, and original lead Saoirse Rona departed and was replaced by Fanning.
The film has a really great cast that also includes Greg Wise, Tom Sturridge, Derek Jacobi, Julie Walters, Emma Thompson, and Edward Fox.
Dakota Fanning will play the title role in Effie, a biopic of Euphemia “Effie” Gray. The subject of one of history’s most famous love triangles, Gray was married to art critic John Ruskin (Wise) in 1846 but, after Ruskin failed to consummate the marriage after five years, Gray had it annulled and instead married Ruskin’s protégé, painter John Everett Millais (Sturridge).
